The number of people waiting for surgery at Warrnambool’s base hospital rose 23.5 per cent in three months the latest health data shows.
There were 919 people on the waiting list as of December 31, 2017, up from 744 people on the list at September 30, 2017.
Mrs Britnell said while the hospital waits for much needed upgrades to its key nerve centres – the operating theatres and emergency department – patients are left waiting for surgery like joint replacements.
“If there’s a Liberal Government elected in November, the stage-two redevelopment will be funded,” Mrs Britnell said.
“What’s needed now is Labor to match that commitment – They’ve had almost four years and all they’ve done is delay the inevitable.
“We’ve known for years that operating theatres and the emergency department need to be modernised and upgraded – but we are still waiting as waiting lists grow.”
