Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says she is confident of a positive outcome as negotiations continue on the future of Portland Aluminium.
Mrs Britnell said she has been encouraged by her ongoing discussions with key figures about the issue.
“The collaborative efforts of the workers, contractors and the wider community has been incredible and they need to be congratulated,” Mrs Britnell said
“There has been a lot of work done and I am confident of a positive outcome for Portland and South West Coast.
“As a community, we cannot afford for the smelter to be closed. We would see too many people out of work and the flow on effects across the region would be devastating.
“I’m pleased that all parties have been negotiating in good faith. As the member for South West Coast, a high priority is ensuring our people have a job available to them.
“I continue to do everything I can to ensure a positive outcome on this situation.”
