CFA volunteers from across the south-west will rally in Warrnambool on Friday, protesting the proposed unionisation of the authority.

South West Coast MP Roma Britnell said the rally would start at Swan Reserve at 12 noon with volunteers and vehicles making their way down Liebig Street, finishing at Cannon Hill.

She said the rally has already received a strong response showing how concerned volunteers are about the proposed EBA, which the Andrews Governments is likely to sign off on this week.

“They are concerned their roles are going to be diminished under the proposed agreement,” she said.

“These people don’t get paid, they go out of the way to make sure our communities are safe and they are being sold out by the United Firefighters Union and Premier Daniel Andrews.”

Mrs Britnell said she and the Federal Member for Wannon Dan Tehan stand “shoulder to shoulder” in support of CFA volunteers.

“We aren’t going to stand back and just let this happen. The volunteers have shown they won’t stand for it either, they need support in this fight.”

Mrs Britnell encouraged volunteers from across the region to join and for the community to come along and show their support.

“I have put petitions in businesses around the electorate and would encourage everyone to add their name and come along on Friday,” she said.

“The petition can also be signed online at www.handsoffthecfa.com.au and copies can be collected from my office or mailed out.”
