CostWatch to visit South West Coast to hear from locals

electirictyResidents from across South West Coast will have the opportunity to share their stories of increased cost of living next week.

Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell will host shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Cost of Living and Member for Mount Waverly Michael Gidley in Warrnambool on March 28 as part of the CostWatch campaign.

Mr Gidley launched CostWatch in an effort to uncover true cost of living pressures by speaking with households and businesses.

Mrs Britnell said she hoped South West Coast residents would take the opportunity to speak with Mr Gidley to share their experiences.

“Michael will be responsible for forming policies to address cost of living pressures, so this is an opportunity for people to share their experiences and ideas with him,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to hosting Michael and his CostWatch truck on Warrnambool’s Civic Green on March 28 and hope to speak with many of my constituents.”

Mr Gidley said Victorian’s were facing an ever increasing burden on their household budgets.

“Households are facing increased energy prices of around $300 due to this Government’s energy policies which include tripling the tax on brown coal and forcing the closure of the Hazelwood Power Plant”,” he said.

“The Andrews Labor Government has also imposed a new $2 tax on every trip in a taxi. It’s these new taxes that are putting pressure on people’s hip-pockets and I want to know how the cost of living is impacting them.”

The CostWatch truck will be on Warrnambool’s Civic Green between 9am and 1pm on Tuesday, March 28.
