Education minister James Merlino has been invited to a community meeting to explain why the Warrnambool Developmental School did not receive funding in the 2017/18 state budget.
The School’s council has called a community meeting for May 18 and have the backing of Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell who has extended the invitation to Mr Merlino on the school’s behalf.
Other members of the parliament have also been invited to speak along with the Mayor of Warrnambool Cr Kylie Gaston.
Mrs Britnell said the meeting would be a chance for the community to show their support for the school and their push to have a new school built.
“So far the government has bought a block of land and stuck up a promotional sign. The plans are drawn up; the project could begin within weeks when funding is delivered,” Mrs Britnell said
“These are among our most vulnerable children, with special needs have a school that is fit for purpose.”
The meeting will be held at the Lighthouse Studio, from 7pm on May 18.
