The State Government must match the Liberal Party’s commitment to fully fund the stage two redevelopment of the Warrnambool Base Hospital in the upcoming state budget, Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says.
Mrs Britnell said it was shameful that the Labor Government had failed to finish the job at the hospital in the four years it has been in power.
She said the upgrade of hospital’s emergency department and operating theatres must be fully funded to give the hard working staff the best facilities to do their vital work.
“The Liberal’s made a commitment in 2014 and re-affirmed that position in 2015 and 2016,” Mrs Britnell said.
“It’s vital this redevelopment is completed as soon as possible – demand for services is growing and the staff, while still doing a brilliant job, are under enormous pressure dealing with inadequate facilities.
“Daniel Andrews has had four years, he knows how bad the situation is and how desperately these upgrades are needed, so does the Minister for Health, but they’ve dilly-dallied and dragged their feet and the people of the South West have missed out and the staff have had to make do.
“If Daniel Andrews had of matched the commitment made by the Liberals in 2014 – the upgrade could almost have been completed by now.
“Daniel Andrews must match the Liberal Nationals commitment in this budget so work can begin on this vital upgrade ASAP.”
