Liberal Nationals lighting up Hanlon Park

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will light up Portland’s Hanlon Park with a $250,000 commitment to the community project.

The funding will allow the Portland Football Netball Cricket Club to proceed with the long planned project, which will install a lighting system so that night football, netball and cricket will able to be played at Hanlon Park.

Hanlon Park plays host to Hampden Football Netball League Games, Portland and District Cricket Association Finals and regularly hosts the South West District League Grand Final.

The Portland Football Netball Cricket Club has more than 1000 members, including 200 players across all grades, including juniors.

The Glenelg Shire will contribute $292,000 and the Portland Football Netball Cricket Club will contribute $60,000 of cash and in-kind support to the project.

Unlike Daniel Andrews who has decided to give a massive $225 million of taxpayers’ money to the AFL to upgrade Etihad Stadium, the Liberal Nationals are getting behind cash-strapped local sporting clubs who desperately need our support.

Comments attributable to Leader of the Nationals, Peter Walsh:

“The Liberal Nationals will always back our grassroots sporting clubs first; we won’t make them apply for loans with interest while the AFL is given a free kick with millions of taxpayers’ dollars.

Roma Britnell has been doing extensive work to support the growth of local grassroots clubs and has advocated strongly for this funding.”

Comments attributable to Member for South West Coast, Roma Britnell:

“I am proud that an elected Matthew Guy Government will contribute to this important project for the Portland sporting community.

Country footy and netball clubs are the heart of the community and are usually run with the power of volunteers. This project will allow the Portland Football Netball Cricket Club the opportunity to expand its offering and open up new avenues of revenue.”
