Shadow Minister for Mental Health Emma Kealy has met with Members of The Lookout Steering committee to be briefed on the project.
Ms Kealy joined South West Coast MP Roma Britnell on Wednesday to meet with WRAD Director Geoff Soma, steering committee chair Glenys Philpot and committee member Greg Best.
“Emma and I have discussed issues surrounding residential rehabilitation across the state and we both felt it was important for her to visit Warrnambool to meet with Geoff Soma and the steering committee members,” Mrs Britnell said.
“There is an amazing amount of community support for this project and the need for this type of residential rehabilitation centre is well known.
“The fact the community can raise over $500,000 in less than three months shows just how much support their is and the community knows there is a need.”
Ms Kealy said with waiting lists for rehab beds up to a year in Western Victoria, Daniel Andrews needs to listen and finally deliver his promise of another 100 residential rehabilitation beds.
While in Warrnambool, Ms Kealy and Mrs Britnell met with South West Healthcare’s Director of Mental Health Services Karyn Cook to discuss the delivery of mental health services in the Western District and what can be done to improve access for clients.
