Statement from Roma Britnell MP regarding gas policy announcement

I will always put the rights of farmers and protection of our agricultural assets first.

This policy maintains the ban on fracking and includes a right of veto, which I fought hard to have included. This will ensure farmers who are not comfortable with gas exploration on their land have the right to say no.

This policy provides farmers with the strongest rights they have ever had over the land they own and manage.

If this policy becomes legislation, I would encourage farmers who are unsure about onshore gas exploration and extraction to exercise their right of veto.

While there may be a need for increased gas supply – it must not come at the expense of our agricultural assets and I will continue to be a strong voice in the party room on this issue.
