Supporting those who back people doing it tough

An elected Liberal National Government will back Warrnambool and District Food Share so it can continue its vital work in the South West Coast Community.

Opposition Leader Matthew Guy and Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell visited the Food Share warehouse today to announce up to $610,000 towards the purchase and construction of a new facility.

Warrnambool and District Food Share needs to relocate to a bigger warehouse due to the rapid growth in need since the group started its services five years ago.

Funding from the Liberal Nationals will allow Food Share to move to a purpose-built facility on its own site which meets its needs and helps reduce ongoing costs.

In 2017, Warrnambool and District Food Share delivered 5000 hampers to the south-west community and has exceed year on year totals since it began five years ago.

Demand is ever increasing and in May this year, the group delivered 500 food hampers, which equated to 8 tonnes of food to families and people who needed a hand.

Victorians are facing increasing cost of living pressures thanks to the Andrews Government’s idealistic policies. The Liberal Nationals are committed to decreasing that pressure and will support agencies helping those doing it tough.

Comments attributable to Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy:

The Liberals will support those who support others in our community who are doing it tough.

Member for South West Coast, Roma Britnell has does a great job advocating for her local community to ensure the Liberals deliver for Warrnambool and surrounding towns.

Comments attributable to Member for South West Coast, Roma Britnell:

Cost of living pressures are forcing more and more people to turn to Warrnambool and District Food Share to make sure there is food on the table.

Last year Warrnambool and District Food Share fed 12,500 people in our region – half of those were children – meaning there are 6000 kids in our region who go to the dinner table not knowing if food would be there.

I am proud to be able to make this commitment with Matthew today so Warrnambool and District Food Share can continue their vital work.
