Important research jobs have been cut as Daniel Andrews continues his destruction of regional Victorian jobs, Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says.
Just a day after announcing a plan to put 2500 people out of work and to destroy the native timber industry which has science behind it to show it is environmentally sustainable, Daniel Andrews’ razor gang slashed 50 jobs at Agriculture Victoria, including positions at Hamilton.
“It’s absolutely disgraceful that these jobs have been cut – these are scientists doing cutting edge work to help farmers be innovative, to be better land managers and to be productive and profitable,” She said.
“This latest move again shows how little regard Daniel Andrews has for Agriculture, despite it being a huge contributor to the state economy.
“For these jobs to be described as surplus is a slight on the important work these scientists are doing.
“When projects in the city like the level crossing removal or the West Gate Tunnel run over budget, there is always more funding found – it seems that is coming at the expense of regional jobs.
“If Daniel Andrews and the Labor Party are truly supportive of Agriculture, they will reinstate these 50 research jobs immediately.”
