Warrnambool and the south-west top of the list when it comes to liveability

A new poll ranking Warrnambool and the south-west as Australia’s most liveable area is telling local what they already know, Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says.

The annual Ipsos Life in Australia Poll ranks the region number one among regional areas and Ms Britnell said it backed up what she has been saying for years.

“I’ve always said this is the best place in the country to live and now we have the proof,” she said.

“We have amazing natural beauty, moving around is easy and free of congestion and we have incredible access to high quality health and education services.

“There are few other places that you can be at the beach five minutes after knocking off work. There is an incredible arts community and exceptional food and wine.”

But Ms Britnell said there is always things that can be improved on – mainly when it comes to connectivity.

“Our roads need some significant improvement as does our rail service. Getting those two things up to scratch will improve liveability even further,” she said.

Warrnambool and the south-west had a score of 68.7 out of 100 in the survey of almost 10,000 Australians.

The region ranked above average in all areas that included feeling safe, access to natural environment, access to health care and a strong sense of community.
