Fight for road funding continues

Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says she’s bitterly disappointed the Princes Highway West and other regional road upgrades have been forgotten in the State Budget.

Ms Britnell said she was hopeful the Andrews Labor Government would finally match the Federal Government money to get the upgrade underway.

“They’ve again missed the opportunity to get a road upgraded for half the price,” she said.

“The community is screaming out for funding to fix our roads and the Andrews Labor Government has again pretty much ignored those pleas.”

“The fight to get our roads fixed and fixed properly goes on – the region deserves to have roads that are safe and fit for purpose.

“The Government this week put out a media release reminding employers about their obligations to keep their workers safe over the festive season – but the Government is ignoring the obligations they have to make sure drivers are safe on roads they have responsibility for.

“The Government is sinking $2.2 billion into the Suburban Rail Loop – a project that doesn’t have a business case, but it can’t find $60 million for the Princes Highway.”
