Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell is urging people to have their say about how to best manage Victoria’s country roads.
Submissions are now being taken for a Parliamentary Inquiry into Vicroads’ Management of Country Roads and Mrs Britnell said it was vital that people in the south-west had their say.
“Data shows we have the worst roads in the state and the majority of calls to my office are about the condition of our roads,” Mrs Britnell said.
The inquiry will investigate the effectiveness of current management arrangements, funding models, road repair priorities and community involvement in setting those priorities as well as separating VicRoads into a country and metropolitan roads board.
“These are key concerns people have raised with me over the past two years,” Mrs Britnell said.
“It’s vital our roads are safe and efficient. We use these roads every day to get to work and to take our children to school – we should be able to do that without endangering lives and risking damage to vehicles.
“We live in the state’s most productive region, so we need good quality roads to efficiently get good to market and to keep businesses productive and viable.
“This inquiry will hear evidence and then make recommendations to Government – this is a fantastic opportunity for people in South West Coast to help influence this key policy area.”
