About South West Coast

The South West Coast electorate is a large rural-based electorate about 250 kilometres west of Melbourne covering the regional centres of Warrnambool and Portland, as well as the towns of Port Fairy, Macarthur, Heywood, Koroit, Nelson and Hawkesdale.

This diverse region is home to one of the largest milk producing regions in Australia, processing milk sourced locally and from surrounding areas, with several large dairy industry processors calling South West Coast home.

Other key economic strengths include agriculture, forestry, aluminum smelting at Portland, tourism and alternative energy.

South West Coast is one of the most attractive regions in the world with its magnificent coastline, beautiful beaches, great volcanic features, stunning national parks and rivers and unique aboriginal culture heritage.

The region is home to the famous Warrnambool May Racing Carnival, the only three day racing carnival in Australia and is a feature event on the calendar of many racing enthusiasts from across Australia.  Tourists come from far and wide each year to whale watch.

The electorate is also home to the popular Port Fairy Folk Festival, the Koroit Irish Festival, Heywood Wood Wine and Roses Festival and the historic Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic, one of the oldest cycling races in the world.

South West Coast is not only a terrific region to stay and play, but to work and raise a family.
