Andrews presses ahead with dangerous new Health Tax

Roma Britnell MP, Member for South West Coast has raised concerns about the recent decision of the Andrews Labor Government to press ahead with applying a Health Tax on local General Practitioners.
Last week in Parliament Ms Britnell met with 30 GPs and peak body representatives from across Victoria and listened firsthand to some of their concerns surrounding this tax.
“Local doctors who I have spoken to have called this move the ‘final straw”, said Ms Britnell.
Under Labor’s Health Tax, tenant GPs in clinics will be deemed to be ‘employees’, significantly increasing payroll tax obligations. In many cases the Andrew’s Government will be backdating the tax owed by up to five years, resulting in tax bills in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“At a time when regional Victoria is already struggling to recruit GPs and costs are skyrocketing for business and consumers alike, GP’s tell me that Labor’s Health Tax will add considerable out of pocket costs for patients, see an end to bulk billing, and likely see local GP clinics close.”
“Daniel Andrews needs to put the health of Victorians first and categorically rule out this tax. Labor has already imposed over 50 new or increased taxes Victorians.”
“People can’t afford to keep putting their hand in their pockets and health is not the place where Labor should go searching for more money to pay off the States record debt, caused entirely by Daniel Andrew’s mismanagement”.
“The number one priority of the Andrews Labor Government should be to incentivise GPs from across Australia and the world to relocate to Victoria. This is a backwards step in improving our broken Health system, and we will be the only State in Australia with such a tax.”
Roma Britnell MP has been in contact with local General Practitioners from across South West Coast to examine the effects of this new tax and has encouraged GP Clinics to voice their thoughts and concerns about the impacts of this new tax by the Andrews Labor Government.
