Another slap in the face for Warrnambool SDS

Daniel Andrews and James Merlino have delivered another slap in the face to the Warrnambool Special Developmental School – announcing money for another school update outside the budget process, Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says.

This morning Bell Primary School, in Preston, received $2 million in funding to deliver the first stage of building works to modernise the school and improve its infrastructure.

It follows on from funding announcements made at Northcote Primary School ($3.15 million), Wonthaggi Secondary School ($32 million), Thornbury High School ($5 million), Mount Lilydale Mercy College ($2 million).

“Daniel Andrews recently said ‘we’re doing the work so we can be ready to make sure it can be properly considered in the budget next year’. But why do we have to wait until May when other schools are being funded now,” Mrs Britnell said.

“The Premier has set a precedent announcing funding for school’s outside the budget, why is he treating the Warrnambool SDS differently?

“There is no excuse not to fund a new Warrnambool SDS immediately – the major part of the planning work is done, we have a block of land, now let’s put a school on it.”
