Award win shows extraordinary work of health service staff

Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell has congratulated South West Healthcare on being named the Premier’s Health Service of the Year.

Ms Britnell said the award was testament to the incredible work of the doctors, nurses, allied health and administrative staff at the health service.

“They do fantastic work in some pretty trying circumstances. This award is significant recognition of that and I congratulate everyone who has worked so hard to achieve it.

“We are incredibly lucky to have such a high quality health service here in the south-west which provides an extraordinary level of specialist services often unseen in rural and regional hospitals.

“Being able to attract specialists to the level South West Healthcare has again shows how highly regarded the health service is.”

Ms Britnell said the pressure was now on the Andrews Labor Government to provide South West Healthcare with the funding it needs to complete the redevelopment of the Warrnambool Base Hospital.

“The Government has recognised the great work everyone at the hospital is doing – now it’s time to reward them with facilities that are fit for purpose,” Ms Britnell said.

“To be named the best health service with an emergency department that doesn’t have enough room to deal with an increasing patient load and operating theatres that were built in the 80’s just shows the level of work the staff are doing.

“Imagine what it would be like if they had modern facilities fit for purpose.

“I encourage the Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos to keep her word and visit the Warrnambool Base Hospital before the end of the year.

“I also encourage her to stop ignoring the desperate need for redevelopment and bring the cheque book so we can get on with the job and have a modern, fit for purpose hospital.”
