South West Coast MP Roma Britnell says she is disappointed that the stage two redevelopment of the Warrnambool Base Hospital has not been fully funded, but says money for planning is at least a start.
After the project was allocated $7.5 million in the state budget, Mrs Britnell said the Labor government needs to stop the political games and fully fund the state two redevelopment.
Mrs Britnell said the allocation showed a government appointed advisory group was only for show and is a political smokescreen.
“There is no way you can form an advisory panel a little over a month ago and already have a result. This money would have been allocated months ago long before the group was formed, so the advisory group is simply a political smokescreen,” she said.
“The community knows what needs to be done and so do our doctors and nurses. We need a complete overhaul of the emergency department and operating theatres so the growing demand can be met and waiting lists reduced.
“The government is only doing half the job. We know what needs to be done and we know it needs to be done now. So why only partially fund this vital project?”
The Liberal – Nationals Coalition has committed full funding for the project should it win government at the 2018 State Election.
