Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell has again raised the proposed joint CFA and SES base in Port Fairy with the Minister for Emergency Services.
In Parliament on Tuesday, Ms Britnell asked Minister Lisa Neville to make a commitment for funding and to provide a timeline for the relocation to the soon to be former ambulance station will happen.
“These two groups want to work together, the community want them to work together and they have the backing of their organisations for this joint base to happen,” Ms Britnell said.
“The government has put up a sign on the site saying it’s the future home of the organisations, the only thing missing is government funding.”
Ms Britnell said both the SES and CFA need new facilities to help attract and retain volunteers and to be able to appropriately respond to their communities calls for help.
“The CFA is in a 160 year old building and has no change rooms for female members and getting the trucks in and out of the shed is an operation in precision – a wrong move and there would be a lost mirror and a dinted roller door.
“The SES is on a site owned by the Moyne Shire who have said they will require it back in the future so there is a timeframe on this.
“With the new Ambulance Victoria station at Moyne Health Services approaching completion, the Port Fairy CFA and SES are asking when they will have some funding certainty and a timeline for their much needed new space and I ask the Minister to provide that.”
