The Andrews Labor Government has botched its Council Code of Conduct legislation and created unnecessary alarm in the community, South West Coast MP Roma Britnell says.
The chief municipal officer recommended more than 100 Victorian councillors, including all six Moyne Shire councillors, be dismissed after failing to meet new code of conduct requirements.
“The government’s legislation changes created this problem,” Mrs Britnell said.
“A last minute reprieve from the Premier to not sack the councils is welcome, but true to form, he is blaming everyone else.
“The damage has already been done. This bungle has created uncertainty about council process in the eyes of ratepayers, when it wasn’t their fault at all, it was badly drafted legislation that caused this.”
Mrs Britnell said it was another example of Labor being unable to unable to effectively govern the state.
“Time and time again, Daniel Andrews and Labor have proven they are incapable of running the state,” she said.
“They can’t manage the budget, they can’t draft clear and effective legislation and they can’t look past the tram tracks in Melbourne to do what’s best for regional areas.”
