The Education Minister James Merlino needs to take responsibility for his department’s failings and stop shifting blame to everyone else, Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says.
Mrs Britnell said issues at the school were the fault of the Government, not the council.
“The Government have bypassed the due process and built a school in an area which is prone to flooding – something they were advised of several times but James Merlino is now trying to blame everyone else for this lack of judgement,” she said.
“The council are now left trying to figure out how to build paths, curbing and carparks on a flood plain.
“This is the result of the Minister allowing planning conventions to be flouted and due processes to be skipped – now he is trying to shift the blame.
“The Portland community fought for too long to have this school upgraded; they now just want to move into their new school and not be caught up in the Minister’s blame games.”
