An elected Liberal Nationals Government will provide $3.5 million to build a joint CFA and SES base in Port Fairy.
Both the Port Fairy CFA and SES have outgrown their current locations, and the plan to co-locate is supported by both groups and the wider community.
The Port Fairy CFA brigade is growing in membership with almost 50 percent of its volunteers’ women – but it has no female changing facilities. The building is more than 150 years old and no longer services the brigades’ needs and cannot accommodate for the height of new model tankers.
The Port Fairy SES has a building that would not pass any current occupational health and safety laws and in the last 4 years Labor and James Purcell have failed to support the volunteers to relocate and rebuild.
Daniel Andrews has lost control of population growth and failed to plan when it comes to community safety. Now more than ever we need to invest in our local CFA and SES and give volunteers more control over the best options to protect their community.
Unlike Labor, the Liberal Nationals will get back in control of community safety and always protect those who protect us and ensure they’re safe doing so.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin:
“Volunteers selflessly give their time to serve their community – they deserve the best possible facilities and the respect of their State Government. Daniel Andrews has lost control of population growth and failed to invest in community safety. Only the Liberal Nationals are getting on with funding CFA and SES stations to keep Victorians safe.”
Comments attributable to Member for South West Coast, Roma Britnell:
“We’ve already seen how well CFA and SES co-location works in Koroit so it makes sense to get on with the job and do it in Port Fairy. This is a project I’ve been working hard on over the past three years, so I’m pleased a Matthew Guy Government will do more than stick up a sign and will actually provide funding to support these volunteers to do their important work.”
