Local help available for those seeking energy saver bonus

Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell  has arranged with local Neighbourhood Houses to provide help to people wanting to apply to the Government’s Energy Saver Bonus.

Last month in Parliament Ms Britnell raised concerns that the $250 bonus, which is available to concession card holders, only had an online application process.

She said it was excluding a large number of eligible people because they did not have internet access. She also said the helplines set up to help those without internet access were not providing effective assistance.

“So I’ve worked proactively to make sure there are services available locally to provide help,” Ms Britnell said.

“Each of the Neighbourhood Houses in the South West Coast electorate are more than happy to assist where they can – all people wanting to apply will need to do is give them a call and arrange an appointment.

“I didn’t want people being excluded because they don’t have internet access or don’t have the skills needed to complete the online application, so I’m making sure there are support available locally.

“When setting up programs like this, the Government must take into consideration the digital literacy and access to devices of those in the target age groups.”

Ms Britnell said assistance was available from the following Neighbourhood Houses:

• West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House: 0418 944 276
• Warrnambool Neighbourhood and Community Centre: 5561 4624
• Port Fairy Community House: 5568 2681
• Portland WorkSkills: 5523 1645
