Funding for the Lookout, upgrades to Warrnambool’s harbour and new emergency services facilities have been forgotten in the state budget, Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says.
Ms Britnell said key projects that would help shape the region and keep people safe were forgotten about, while billions were put into projects in the metro area.
“I’m really disappointed The Lookout drug and alcohol rehab center wasn’t funded. This is a critical project to help people who have made the decision to break their addiction get their life back,” she said.
“It’s ready to go – work could start immediately and help fill the critical shortage of rehab beds in Victoria, particularly in regional communities.
“I’m also disappointed to see no funding for the long proposed Port Fairy CFA and SES joint base or the new base for Portland’s Cost Guard. This project is critical to ensuring our emergency services have facilities they need to be able to work efficiently and effectively.”
Ms Britnell said no funding for the Warrnambool breakwater and harbour was also disappointing.
“The breakwater work is critical – it needs a significant inject to make sure it’s structurally sound for generations to come. It’s a state owned asset and they have just ignored it.
“It’s also disappointing after so long to see no funding for the Warrnambool harbor upgrades – the studies have been done and it’s time to get on with it and make the boat launching facilities safe – not only for locals but to help attract people to the region.”
