Lowering speed limits not the way to fix country roads

The plan to lower speed limits on unsealed country roads is yet another example of how out of touch Daniel Andrews is with life beyond the tram tracks, Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says.

“It’s an infuriatingly wrong solution to a very serious problem from a city centric government,” Mrs Britnell said.

“Daniel Andrews’ only plan to fix our country a road is to slow people and productivity down.

“Rather than spending money on upgrading roads or ensuring councils have enough in their budgets to maintain them to a decent standard, Daniel Andrews just wants to stick up some signs and slow us down.”

Mrs Britnell said lowering speed limits will create further inefficiencies for the agriculture sector, adding to the time it takes for goods to get to market, driving up the cost of doing business.

“Those added costs will be passed back to the farmer, sending them to the wall and putting quality Australian produce at a competitive disadvantage,” Mrs Britnell said.

“Daniel Andrews claims to be the friend of the farmer, but that could not be further from the truth with policies like these.

“We need a significant investment to ensure the condition of all country roads, sealed and unsealed, are up to a standard that don’t put motorists lives at risk.
