South West Coast MP Roma Britnell has welcomed the state government’s investment at Port Fairy’s Moyne Health Service.
“Moyne Health Service forms an important part of healthcare services in the region,” Mrs Britnell said.
“I thank the Minister for Health, Jill Hennessy, for making the time to visit my electorate. The people of Port Fairy and surrounds will benefit greatly from the new urgent care facility and co-located ambulance station.”
But Mrs Britnell said it was disappointing the minister snubbed Warrnambool Base Hospital, Western Victoria’s largest healthcare provider and a key part of the statewide health network.
“It’s a mere 20 minutes up the road, she almost would have driven past the front door on her way to Port Fairy,” Mrs Britnell said.
“The Labor government snubbed the base hospital in the budget and now the minster has ignored it again.
“When asked by the Shadow Minster for Health, Mary Wooldridge, when she would visit South West Healthcare, Ms Hennessy said she would visit next time she was in the region.
“She hasn’t kept her word on that.”
Mrs Britnell said she was confident if the minister visited the hospital she would see for herself why the planned stage two upgrade was needed.
“Facilities haven’t been expanded for decades,” Mrs Britnell said.
“If the minister visited she would see the need for the completion of the project, so South West Healthcare continue to provide exceptional services to a growing community.”
