South West Coast MP Roma Britnell has been appointed to the Victorian Parliament’s Joint Investigatory committee into Family and Community Development.
The committee’s role is to hold public inquiries and report back to the Parliament on the role of government in community development and welfare as well as the welfare of the community and the family.
Mrs Britnell said she was looking forward to getting to work with the committee which she says will investigate issues close to her heart.
“I have a 30 year background working as a nurse and in community health, so this committee is a perfect fit for me,” Mrs Britnell said.
“My years of experience will apply to many of the subjects the committee will investigate, allowing me to help develop recommendations that will have practical and realistic impacts on Victoria.
“The committee’s current inquiry is looking at services for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have a special interest in this area and am the ambassador of the South West I CAN Network – a brilliant program developed to help people on the Autism spectrum to reach their full potential.
“My place on this committee will give me an opportunity to highlight I CAN’s work to a wider audience.”
Mrs Britnell said the committee’s next inquiry would look at perinatal services in Victoria and was now seeking submissions from the public. More information about the enquiry can be found on the committee’s website http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/fcdc
