The Andrews Labor Government has bungled one of Warrnambool’s winning Pick my Project ventures, once again proving the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.
The nature based play space in the Botanic Gardens was one of the community driven projects selected in the popularity contest and was awarded $198,000 in funding.
But the play space is now in doubt because it requires a permit from Heritage Victoria because the gardens are heritage listed.
Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell said there had been questions about the Pick My Project scheme from the start and this bungle showed that it was poorly executed.
“We have a project that received government funding that is now potentially being blocked by a Government agency,” Ms Britnell said.
“It’s a situation that could be a storyline straight from ABC comedy Utopia.
“There was clearly going to be issues with this program from the beginning and now we are seeing what happens when a government throws proper process and procedures out the window.”
