Warrnambool’s Special Developmental School has waited long enough and must be given money to build a new school, according to Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell.
In state parliament this week, Mrs Britnell said the way Labor had handled the project was completely unacceptable and urged the Minister for Education James Merlino to fund the project in this year’s state budget.
“The school has been left with an empty block of land while the students are in a cramped and not fit for purpose school, waiting to learn when the government will release money so their new classrooms can be built,” she said
“The current school was designed for 30 students, there are now 131 students enrolled. It’s bulging at the seams and unworkable.”
The previous Liberal National government committed $10 million so the school would be able to buy land and complete the new build in one go.
“Labor dropped the ball and we’ve waited long enough,” she said.
“There can be no more delays, it is absolutely imperative money is included in the State Budget, to be handed down on May 2.
“The planning work is done, all that is needed now is the money to get on and finish the project so the students and staff can have the very best learning environment.”
