Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell has again renewed calls for the Andrews Labor Government to guarantee funding for a new Port Fairy SES base as the situation at the current building worsens.
Ms Britnell said the SES has now had to abandon using the meeting and training room with the ceiling at risk of collapse.
“Unit controller Steve McDowell has been forced to tape the room off and stop members from entering because it’s too dangerous,” she said.
“Water is leaking the whole length of the room and mould has significantly increased in the roof and carpet.
“This means they are now forced to meet and train in the truck bay – a tin shed with a bitumen floor.
“This isn’t how we should be treating people who give up their own time and deal with the worst conditions to help keep the community safe.”
Ms Britnell said the situation was now at the point the Government could not ignore.
She said there is no excuse for funding not to be included in the state budget which will be handed down on May 20.
“It should never have got to this point,” she said.
“This issue has been raised with the State Government continually over the past five years, they have had plenty of warning and a solution on the table.
“They have ignored the SES and now we are at a point where their facilities are actually too dangerous to use.
“I have forwarded photos and an email from Steve outlining the damage to the acting Minister for
