Statement from Roma Britnell MP

The party room has made a decision on the issue of leadership this morning and the issue has been put to bed – it’s time for us to move forward.

I congratulate Matthew Guy on his election as Leader and David Southwick on his election as Deputy Leader.

I also thank Michael O’Brien and Cindy McLeish for their work during their time as Leader and Deputy Leader.

My priority has always been representing the people of South West Coast in Parliament. Holding this role is one of the greatest honours of my life.

I will now, as I always have, work with the leadership team to advance the interests of the South West Coast electorate and to hold the Andrews Labor Government to account.

In terms of my position as a member of the Shadow Cabinet, that is a decision for Matthew to make.

I’d of course be happy to continue to serve in the shadow cabinet because I believe it’s vital the party’s key decision making body needs a diversity of gender, experience, age and ideas.
