Wide vehicle exemption a win for local farmers

Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell has guaranteed wide vehicles used in agricultural production will continue to be exempt from needing permits under the National Heavy Vehicle Register.

In 2010, prior to her election to State Parliament, Mrs Britnell worked with United Dairy Farmers Victoria to ensure certain agricultural vehicles like silage wagons were exempt from permit conditions.

That was due to expire in January, but Mrs Britnell has advocated strongly to the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Michael McCormack.

“Today I received a phone call from the Deputy Prime Minister’s office this morning and was assured the exemption would continue beyond 2019.

“This will mean farmers will be able to focus on their business rather than being caught up in the bureaucracy of trying to keep the important production vehicles on the roads.

“I’m pleased my advocacy has achieved this result which will make life easier for farmers and contractors and will work towards growing agriculture in our region.”
