Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell is thrilled the I CAN Network will receive State Government funding to expand their mentoring program.
The funding comes on the back of a recommendation from the Victorian Parliament’s Family and Community Development Committee which held an inquiry into Services for People with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Mrs Britnell is a member of the committee and proposed the recommendation that has resulted in the funding.
“I’m thrilled I could push for funding to expand the brilliant I CAN Network – This funding will help change perceptions of children with Autism and change their lives,” Mrs Britnell said.
“I’ve seen firsthand how I CAN helps children, building their confidence and allowing them to flourish.
“The people behind the program are passionate and driven, led by the incredible Chris Varney who is living proof of what children with autism can achieve if they are believed in and supported.
“In the south-west, the program is driven by Anthony and Lisa Boyle and a committed and hardworking board, who have been tireless in ensuring I CAN was a success in local schools.
“I’m incredibly proud I could work to achieve this funding and I look forward to continuing to work with the I CAN Network into the future.”
I CAN Network is a unique social enterprise that employs 26 Autistic adults to mentor 600 Autistic kids, teenagers and young adults in camps, schools and workplaces and delivers training to teachers and employers on leveraging the strengths of people on the Autism Spectrum.
